SCHOOL FEES PROBLEM

People blame someone for not going to school yet this shouldn’t be the case since failure to go to school resides in one’s inability to get school fees.

Sometimes a student may be away from school throughout the academic year or during the examination period not because the student doesn’t want to be at school but because of the lack of school fees. Needy families find it hard to cater for their children’s school fees and this leads to their children being denied chance to write the exam. Sometimes students are denied chance to take exams not because of their poor performance in class but because of the lack of school fees.

KUKI NDIHO EXECUTIVE TEAM in RWANDA asked one of the students who were denied chance to write the exam as a result of lacking school fees, and she was asked to share her feelings after being denied chance to write the exam and she said, “The fact that I’ve been denied my chance to write the exam, not because I’m weak in class, but because of lacking school fees has saddened me and left me heartbroken because I consider this the denial of rights though I hail from a poor family.

I don’t think denying me the exam as a result of failure to pay school fees is the right way to go. I don’t perform poorly in class. So, I should have been allowed to sit for the exam like any other students because poverty is not a sin.” It is true that poverty is not a crime. That is why KUKI NDIHO FOUNDATION does whatever it takes to comfort orphans and children born of genocide survivors since the inability by these parents to fend for their children’s education triggers most of these children to resort to drug abuse; others become street children as a result of lacking means.

As KUKI NDIHO was founded and mainly supported by a genocide survivor, Dr. Marie Claudine Mukamabano, she easily understands the problems orphans go through as a survivor of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Her ability to have braved the waves and fight the problems she has encountered since her childhood until her adulthood, those who insulted her, cursed her, blackmailed her, but most importantly she cannot forget those who bestowed their kindness upon her. She is thankful to the Almighty God for His love, grace and mercy and she owes her existence to His grace. This is the reason for which she clearly understands orphans’’ problems and those of those born of orphans. She clearly understands their tears and unceasing sorrow. With the Almighty God’s help, Dr. Marie Claudine MUKAMABANO recently initiated the Bank for Orphans with a view to cater for orphans’ education and encourage their relatives to be job creators and invest in entrepreneurship since this is believed to be the right option for them to effectively confront the dire poverty they are plunged in. Besides, the initiative will play a pivotal role in counteracting trauma and mental disturbance for some which sometimes lead to suicide.

May God stand by us the way He did over the last period of time. May His guiding star enlighten our path forever and ever!
