Doreen Berne is the Executive Director of The Ben Appelbaum Foundation, a mentor network for entrepreneurs and charities in the tri-state region. She has held this position since 2000, when the organization expanded to increase its outreach from the initial mentee cohort. Under her leadership, the organization has helped over 70 new mentees, including start-up businesses and charitable foundations, and created partnerships with over a dozen agencies that provide services to entrepreneurs.
Previously, Ms. Berne was the Executive Editor of Medical Acquisitions, at Appleton-Century-Crofts and at Grune & Stratton, medical publishers in New York City. She has been a head teacher at the Congregational Day Nursery School, Manhasset, NY and was a head teacher in the pre-k program at the primary school, Roslyn, NY.
Ms. Berne hails from Columbus, Ohio where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English and French from The Ohio State University. She has a Masters of Arts in Education from New York University. She currently lives in Port Washington, NY, where she is a past president of the Port Washington Children’s Center local day care and current president of the Sands Point Garden Club.
